What is HCPAA all about?

As an academy participant, you’ll be greeted by several Sumner County officials, and receive a comprehensive behind the scenes tour, and overview of the Hendersonville Police Department. Participants will meet with judges and officials within the county, and have an opportunity to ask questions related to the judicial system. A large variety of law enforcement topics and the outcome of community based practices will be discussed and demonstrated. Upon successful completion of the Citizen Police Academy, each participant, along with family and friends, will attend the Citizen Police Academy Graduation. Each graduate is then able to join the Citizen Police Academy Alumni Association.

Several topics are covered during your training. One is law enforcement roles in the community. There are discussions and demonstrations from HPD support units, including; S.W.A.T. Negotiators, K-9, Criminal Investigations, Mounted Patrol, Bike Patrol, FLEX Operations, and Firearms.

Each two-hour session includes hands-on training activities such as fingerprinting, traffic stops, DUI enforcement, and use of less-than-lethal weapons and firearms.
